Emily Deschanel Plays Temperance Brannan in 'Bones'

"Bones" Season 9, Episode 12, titled "Ghost in the Killer" is the first episode of the FOX series in 2014. Emily Deschanel's Temperance Brennan is obsessing over a case, says David Boreanaz' Seeley Booth. Watch Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) haunt Brennan in this mid-season special.

Spoiler alert: This feature contains minor spoilers on Bones Season 9, Episode 12, aka Ghost in the Killer. Scroll down to watch the sneak preview (FOX promo video) below.

Here is the official synopsis of Bones 9x12 from FOX:

"The Jeffersonian team investigates the death of Lana Brewster, a girl whose remains are delivered to Brennan and Booth's home by someone who believes her death 18 years ago was no accident. When the team discovers that Lana was murdered and her death was covered up, people from her past become key suspects, including an ex-boyfriend with whom Hodgins was friends. Meanwhile, Brennan starts having dreams again about evil tech genius Pelant, and about a potentially more heinous killer, whom she realizes could be involved with Lana's death in the all-new "The Ghost in the Killer" episode of BONES airing Friday, Jan. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX."

Andrew Leeds is officially credited as guest actor in Bones 9x12.

"[The identity of the killer] will not necessarily be personified [in Bones Season 9x12]. We will know that he or she - most probably a she - exists," says Stephen Nathan, Bones' showrunner, in this TV Line report.

This "ghost" could be the next super villain that Christopher Pelant sort of introduced in Bones Season 9, Episode 4, "The Sense in the Sacrifice."

In the promo video below, Pelant appears in Brennan's nightmare(s), as if to pull a message off the forensic anthropologist's subconscious. What sort of psychopath would Booth and the squinterns be facing in the second half of Bones Season 9?

The Ghost Killer "looms over our people in a way we have yet to see on Bones," Nathan says. "It's someone who is far more ephemeral than any of our other bad guys," the EP warns TVLine here.

Nathan also tells E! Online here that Bones viewers will be "seeing how immersed and overwhelmed Brennan is by the idea of this new serial killer."

Some fans have yet to get used to new programming for Bones. Season 9 now airs on FOX on Fridays (from Mondays earlier in the season). Are fans very tired of Christopher Pelant? Perhaps a little bit of ghost hunting won't hurt.
