'Boruto Naruto Next Generations' episode 2 predictions: New ocular jutsu explained

The first episode of "Boruto Naruto Next Generation" has just aired this week after "Naruto Shippuden" ended last month. It introduced Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto and Hinata's son, as the new protagonist for the third installment of the anime series.

Spoiler Alert! The first episode of the new series did start off the same as manga where a teenage Boruto faces off against Kawaki on Naruto's destroyed face in the Hokage Rock. The scene reveals a destroyed, modernised Konoha Village in the background.

The next scene shows Kawaki, the antagonist for the series, telling Boruto that the age of Shinobis are over. Boruto disagrees with him so he took out what seemed to be Sasuke Uchiha's ninja headband, wore it and activated a new ocular jutsu.

After activating the ocular jutsu, the first episode did not follow chapter one of the manga and went off with a new storyline that introduced new and returning characters. It ended with Boruto going to to the Ninja Academy with his newfound friend, Denki, after being suspended for ruining Naruto's face in the Hokage Rock with a train during the school's entrance ceremony.

Although not explained in the anime nor in the manga, the Naruto wiki said that Boruto's ocular jutsu is a Byakugan. It makes sense since his mother is Hinata who possesses the same technique.

There is still no official explanation on what Boruto's eye technique can do but it seemed like it is capable of detecting evil chakras from people. He first accidentally activated this technique during his way to the Ninja Academy when he saw Denki. It is possible that Boruto might get to know more about his eye in the 'Boruto Naruto Next Generations' episode 2 during one of their classes.

Boruto's Byakugan

The new ocular jutsu might be the result of Kurama's chakra and the Byakugan combined. However, it should not be confused when Naruto gave Hinata some of his chakra during the Great Ninja War in "Naruto Shippuden."

Although a lot of details about Boruto's eye technique are still lacking, fans think that it is somewhere in the bloodline of the Tenseigan. The Tenseigan was first introduced in "Boruto: Naruto The Movie" and was first used by Hamura Otsutsuki. It only awakens in a child born from the marriage of an Otsutsuki and a Hyuga.

Since Hinata is a Hyuga possessing the Byakugan and Naruto has a unique type of chakra, there is no doubt that Boruto would be someone special. It has also been confirmed before that his sister, Himawari, also possesses the Byakugan although it is unsure if she can learn the same ocular jutsu that Boruto has.
