Box Office Report: ‘22 Jump Street’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Top the Charts

The comedy flick "22 Jump Street" was on top at the box office followed closely by the animation movie "How to Train Your Dragon" 2. The adventure movie "Maleficent" is still going strong and placed third.

According to a report by Box Office Mojo, "22 Jump Street" was able to make an impressive $80 million at the box office. $60 million came from the U.S and more than $20 million came from the international market, propelling the movie to the top spot at the box office.

"22 Jump Street" is a story about two officers - Schmidt and Jenko. The officers had made their way through high school twice but refuse to grow up. An opportunity to go undercover at a local college may just be the best thing that ever happened to them.

The highly anticipated "How to Train Your Dragon" 2 managed to place second at the box office. The total collection of the movie was over $76 million worldwide. The movie was able to collect $50 million from the U.S market and the remaining $26 million came from the international market.

"How to Train Your Dragon" 2 continues the adventures of the scrawny but intelligent Viking -Hiccup and his dragon Toothless. The plot of the movie has been set five years after the events of the prequel. Hiccup and his dragon discover a new ice cave full of wild dragons and a mysterious dragon rider. The two of them have to fight for peace and do what is best for both mankind and the dragons.

The Angelina Jolie starrer "Maleficent" is still going strong at the box office. The movie has able to make over $436 million in its third week at the box office. The U.S. earnings of the movie stood at more than $163.5 million and the collection from the international market stood at over $272 million.

"Maleficent" tells the story of a vengeful fairy, who curses the daughter of a king to punish him and his invading army. She later realises that the cursed child is the key to the peace and happiness in the region. The movie had ruled the carts at the box office for two weeks.
