Box Office Report: ‘Maleficent’ and ‘X-Men’ Rule the Charts
The highly anticipated movie "Maleficent" was at the top of the charts at the box office. A close second was "X-Men: Days of Future Past," in its second week at the box office. The movies had to face completion from the newly released "A Million Ways to Die in the West" and the recently released movie "Godzilla."
The clear winner "Maleficent" was able to generate over $170 million worldwide as collections at the box office. According to a report by Box Office Mojo the movie got more than $69 million in domestic earnings and just over $100 million from the international market.
The plot of the movie revolves around a young pure hearted woman- "Maleficent." Her peaceful life in the forest is disrupted by an invading army. Her heart turns to stone due to a betrayal and she seeks revenge on the king's successor.
"Maleficent" places a curse on a new born child Aurora, not realizing that the child will hold the key to her true happiness when she grows up. The key to peace in the forest also lies in the hands of Aurora.
The cast of the movie includes Angelina Jolie as "Maleficent," Elle Fanning as Aurora, Sharlto Copley as Stefan, Lesley Manville as Flittle, Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass, Juno Temple as Thistletwit, Sam Riley as Diaval, Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip and Kenneth Cranham as King Henry.
The other movie at the box office "X-Men: Days of Future Past" was able to get a total of over $500 million in worldwide collection. The domestic collection of the movie was about $162 million and the movie got over $300 million in international collections.
The plot of the movie revolves around stopping a war with robots in the future called Sentinels. The Sentinels were created to wage a war against mutants but they eventually turn on the humans as well.
Wolverine is sent back in time to contact other mutants and try to stop the war before it starts. The cast in the movie includes the cast from "X-Men: First Class" and the cast from the original "X-Men" movie.
"Maleficent" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will need to take on movies like "Edge of Tomorrow," starring Tom Cruise, "The Fault in Our Stars" and "The Sacrament" releasing later this week.
