Boxing News 2014: Mayweather Confirms Retirement In 2015; Rematch With Maidana On Saturday Is 3rd To The Last Fight
Unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr confirmed on Thursday that he would hang his boxing gloves in 2015. He did not give a specific date for his retirement from professional boxing but said that his Saturday rematch with Argentinean boxer Marcos Maidana would be his third to the last fight.

Badlefthook said that the two fights are scheduled for May and September 2015, after which he would focus on building the Mayweather Promotions brand.
If he would beat Maidana on their second bout and his next two opponents, Mayweather would retire with a 49-0 record. However, he refused to speculate who would be his next two opponents since he wants to focus on beating Maidana anew after he won by split decision only on their May 3 match.
He assured boxing fans that the next two fights would be exciting matches, but he again doused cold water on speculations that one of them could be against Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather insisted that it is Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum who is behind the rumours that there are ongoing serious discussions between the two camps for the dream match to be held in 2015.

Money May said Arum is only riding on the speculation to sell more tickets for the Nov 23 bout of Pacquiao versus Chris Algieri in Macau. But to save face in case he is using denial as a strategy to drum up interest in the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, the undefeated boxer said he does not control what the future offers.
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, agreed with Floyd's decision to retire, saying, "He's had a remarkable career. It's time to hang 'em up. Made all the money you can make. What else is there to do in the sport? There's nothing else to prove."

However, one thing that Mayweather would need to prove is his innocence of the charges that ex-fiance Shantel Jackson filed last week against the soon-to-retire champ.
