Filled up with criticisms from 50 Cent to Manny Pacquiao that he lacks education, unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather insisted on Wednesday that he is literate.

However, since his job does not involve reading, he need not be a flawless reader the way news anchors are. "I'm not a news anchor, never claimed to be," Money May was quoted by the New York Daily News.

He asked, "Will God not let me in heaven because I don't read like a news anchor? Look, I would be perfect in reading if it was how I made my living and fed my family."

In response to 50 Cent's dare that for Mayweather to prove he could read or else the rapper would donate $750,000 to charity, the boxer replied, quoted by Yahoo Sports, "I was thinking of something, you know, when you asked me about 50 Cent. If you want to donate money, donate money to the Mike Brown family."

Brown is the 18-year-old black kid who was shot by police during a riot.

Mayweather said he wouldn't stop 50 Cent from donation to the Brown family even as he shared that he and Leonard Ellerbee have been donating thousands of dollars to different organisations for years without media fanfare or informing the public about their charity.

Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said, "What do I have to defend that for? I know firsthand as does anybody who has anything to do with our promotion, our business, that when it comes to reading, Floyd can read perfectly fine."
