Miguel Cotto tries to conquer history in his forthcoming bout with Sergio Martinez.

The hard hitting Puerto Rican boxer will capture his fourth division title if he triumphs in the 12-round fight and will become the first Puerto Rican to accomplish the feat. Cotto hopes to benefit from the training regimen of Freddie Roach as he faces Argentinian Sergio Martinez at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

After a disappointing 2012 wherein he lost via decisions to Floyd Myaweather Jr. and Austin Trout, Cotto teamed up with renowned trainer Freddie Roach who he believes will be instrumental in his quest to capture the WBC world middleweight title against the 39-year old oft injured Martinez.

"This is the best training camp I ever had," Cotto, 33, said about his partnership with Roach. "Our chemistry together has been great."

Yahoo Sports reports that Cotto believes that fighting for the 160-pound crown should not be a problem for him.

"I am a puncher," said Cotto, who has a record of 38-4 with 31 knockouts but has never climbed above 154 pounds. "I carry my punch to 160. I'll carry my punch no matter where my weight is."

His coach, Roach believes that Cotto's defeat in the hands on Manny Pacquiao in 2009 helped his ward prepare better for the fight.

"Working with Manny against Cotto taught me what his weaknesses were. We were able to shore up those ills," said Roach, who envisions a fourth round knockout victory for the Puerto Rican boxer.

Sergio Martinez has a different vision.

The veteran Argentinian believes that he is in his best shape and healthiest state and that alone will propel him to victory.

"Regardless of what Freddie Roach says, Cotto will get beat up on Saturday night," vowed southpaw Martinez, who predicted that he will knock Cotto out cold by the ninth round.

It can be recalled that Martinez has been bothered by injuries the past few years especially to his right knee and left hand when he was able to overcome knockdowns and claim the wins against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in September 2012 and Briton Martin Murray in April 2013.

Martinez, who boasts a 51-2-2 Record, said that if Cotto underestimates him, he is in for a surprise.
