Boxing News: Arum admits ‘certain points have been agreed to’ in Pacquiao-Khan fight but deal not finalised
Bob Arum wants to make it clear that a fight with Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan is already being negotiated but no deal is in place yet for the fight most likely set in April of 2016.
“I said to them, even if Manny Pacquiao picks them - they are going to have to come to Vegas. I have to sit with the kid and work out the deal - because the deal is far from being worked out. Certain points have been agreed to,” Arum admitted to boxingscene.com.
The same report stated that Pacquiao would be fighting not later than April 9, most likely because of the Filipino boxer’s venture into Philippine politics. Pacquiao, who is currently an elected congressman in his country, is running for senator in the Philippine elections set in May 2016.
Earlier this week, Arum refuted reports that a Pacquiao-Khan bout in 2016 is already a done deal. Some media outlets reported that both sides have agreed to a contract but the veteran promoter is adamant that both parties have signed nothing yet.
Arum also stated that they even sent a tape of Terence Crawford, another prospective Pacquiao opponent in April, to the Filipino’s camp to help them decide on Pacquiao’s next opponent.
Also a possibility for Pacquiao’s next fight, which according to Arum will be the Filipino’s last bout in his career, is Timothy Bradley, who already met Pacquiao twice before in the past.
There is also the probable rematch between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., who retired from the sport after his win over Andre Berto last September.
Freddie Roach, the world-renowned trainer of Pacquiao, stated in a recent interview that there is “too much money” involved in a return bout and that the undefeated American could think about going back to the ring again to slug it out with Pacquiao.
