Floyd Mayweather Bets Away $10 million on Broncos to win Super Bowl Reuters

Boxing superstars Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are scheduled to fight in 2014. However, the two fighters aren't going to face each other.

Mayweather is currently in South Africa for a four-day visit to promote the sports of boxing in the nation. Mayweather was first invited to attend the 2013 South African Sports Awards, but unfortunately, he wasn't able to make it. This time around, the five-division world champion was finally able to squeeze a visit to the African continent in his schedule.

Mayweather arrived in South Africa on Wednesday and immediately, he held a press conference at the Olympic House with South Africa's Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbala, and the media people. As expected, the question about his possible next opponent has been brought up. Well, every time that Mayweather has a fight, everybody wants to know who he will fight next.

Mayweather hinted a few details about the identity of his next opponent. "We don't know," he said. "We would know within the next seven days if it's Amir Khan, if it's Marcos Maidana," he added. "We don't know who it is at this particular time, but hopefully it's somebody who is very very exciting so we can continue to give you guys excitement," he said.

Mayweather shot down questions and got serious when asked about the Manny Pacquiao fight. "As far as Manny Pacquiao fight, we couldn't get right down to the nitty-gritty," said the 36-year-old fighter. He explained what happened and said that he actually offered Manny the fight before. "We didn't see eye to eye on terms" he said. "Years later, we come back and I try to make the fight happen again," he said. According to Mayweather, he offered Manny $40 million but the Filipino boxer allegedly wanted a 50-50 purse split. "So we didn't make the fight happen," Mayweather said.

Mayweather said that Pacquiao's current situation plays a role in the Filipino boxer's desire to fight him. "You know two losses and tax problems later, now he all of a sudden wanna say, 'You know what, I'd do anything to make the fight happen,' when he really said 'Floyd, can you help me solve my tax problems and get me out of debt," said Mayweather.

It seems like the two fighter have shown their willingness to fight each other but how come neither one of them are willing to set aside all the issues and just go into a negotiation to salvage the deal, just for the sake of the boxing public? For the past years, everyone in the boxing world has been asking if Mayweather and Pacquiao will ever face each other in the boxing ring, but as much as people want to see it happen, it is just probably prudent to put the idea to rest, once and for all. What do you think?
