World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs said he is not afraid of challenging IBF, IBO, and WBA super middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, but insisted he will only fight “GGG” if “fair money” is involved.

“[Golovkin] is not someone who I fear,” Jacobs told Boxing Scene. “Obviously, when you’re dealing with a sport like this you wanna make sure you have the finances where it needs to be, in order for it to be such a big fight. I’m just making sure that I get in there and get compensated correctly.”

Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) has issued a challenge to the biggest names in the middleweight division following his remarkable first round stoppage win over Peter Quillin on Sunday at the Barclays Center in New York. Jacobs mentioned the likes of Andy Lee, Billy Joe Saunders, Miguel Cotto, and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but skipped Golovkin’s name.

According to Tim Fletcher of Boxing News 24, Jacobs not mentioning Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) among his next targets is most likely because the undefeated Kazakh only managed low pay-per-view numbers in his recent fight against David Lemieux.

”You can’t blame Jacobs for not mentioning Golovkin’s name among the bunch, because he doesn’t bring the same kind of money that guys like Canelo and Cotto can bring to the table,” Fletcher wrote.

Golovkin only generated 150,000 in PPV buys against Lemieux in October. It was far from Alvarez’s fight against Cotto last month, which gained 900,000 PPV earnings, reports HBO’s Mark Taffet.

While fighting Golovkin would not guarantee a huge payday for Jacobs, fighting the Kazakh knockout artist would bring more credibility in Jacobs’ status in the boxing world, which could get him the chance to fight the big shots in the middleweight class.
