Angelina Jolie's preventative double mastectomy have been "an emotional and beautifully inspiring few months," according to her partner Brad Pitt. The "World War Z" star said that he was "emotional" about Angie's experience.

Speaking to USA Today, Brad has praised how brave the mother of her children is for going public with her recent operation. Angie revealed in an op-ed in New York Times that she decided to have her breasts removed then reconstructed to decrease her chances of getting breast cancer, which doctors estimated to be at 87% before the surgery.

"I'm quite emotional about it, of course," the loving fiancé said. "She could have stayed absolutely private about it and I don't think anyone would have been none the wiser with such good results. But it was really important to her to share the story and that others would understand it doesn't have to be a scary thing.

"In fact, it can be an empowering thing, and something that makes you stronger and us stronger."

Brad also proudly recounted how Angie kept her commitments weeks after she had the surgery. She travelled to Congo, London, and New York in the past two months.

"This was during Stage 2 (when the double mastectomy was performed). Literally it was just weeks after she'd had truly major surgery."

Brad also said that their children - 11-year-old Maddox, 9-year-old Pax, 8-year-old Zahara, 6-year-old Shiloh, and 4-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne - helped make Angie's recovery fun.

"We set up our own little post-op recovery that became pretty fun. You make an adventure out of it."

As for the ordeal that they've gone through, Brad said that it was "an emotional and beautifully inspiring few months. And I'll tell you, it's such a wonderful relief to come through this and not have a spectre hanging over our heads.

"To know that that's not going to be something that's going to affect us. My most proudest thing is our family. This isn't going to get that."

Angelina has praised Brad in her op-ed, saying that he was with her through it all.

"I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pit, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition."
