Brad Pitt’s Controversial Damage Control on Remarks about Ex-Wife Jennifer Aniston
Brad Pitt is still doing damage control over his recent remarks regarding his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston. The Hollywood actor sat down with Matt Lauer on “Today” show to discuss his new film, “Moneyball.” During the baseball film’s inception and Pitt’s Oscar buzz were being discussed, the majority of the conversation was centered on his recent remarks about ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.
Brad Pitt released a statement to “The Hollywood Reporter” clarifying his controversial quote from Parade Magazine that made headlines. According to the interview, Brad talked about "pretending" during his marriage with Jennifer Aniston which ended in 2005. Since then, Brad, Jennifer and Brad's current partner, Angelina Jolie, have been the subjects of countless love triangle stories that seem to find their way into every interview with any of the three.
Pitt found himself in controversy when he told Parade Magazine why he felt pathetic in the 90’s. The quote in question said by Brad is: "I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't." It was received with outrage from some fans who thought he was trashing his ex-wife. Brad then released a statement through his representative clarifying the quote. "It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly,” says Pitt.
“I don't know what was pieced together or put together. All I know is that my point was, the best thing I'd done as a father is be sure that my kids have a good mother,” Pitt said of his interview with Parade Magazine. “That's all I was, or am, trying to say. It has no reference to the past. And I think it's a shame that I can't say something nice about Angie without Jen being drug in. You know, she doesn't deserve it. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself—and that, I am responsible for,” he clarified.
Brad Pitt told Lauer he knew the comment did not come across how he meant it. “She's good, people,” he said of Aniston. “There should be a statute of limitations on this. I don't want them to say anything bad like that about Jen. She's a dear friend of mine,” he further added. Lauer asked Pitt what’s the lesson from all of this and the actor simply replied “Don’t talk.”
