Brazil's National Football Team Unveils Graffiti Covered Team Plane

Football for the Brazilians is a serious and popular sport, especially this year as they will be holding the 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals.

With this, the Brazilian National Team, also known as seleção, has unveiled the graffiti-covered team plane. The Boeing 737 aircraft of Brazilian airline Gol, will be traveling with the Brazilian national soccer team throughout the month-long World Cup event which will be played in different venues across the country.

The plane was presented to the media at Confins International Airport, in Belo Horizonte on May 27. The aircraft is covered in graffiti but not because it was abandoned and left outside to be vandalized by artistic vagabonds. The artwork was commissioned to Brazilian artists, twin brothers who go by the name "Os Gemeos."

Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo painted the entire fuselage of the plane using 1,200 cans of spray paint. The plane's wings were left untouched due to safety concerns. Spray painting the critical and movable parts of the wings might cause issues during the flight.

The Pandolfo brothers are no strangers to large-scale paintings having previously decorated trains, large buildings and a castle. The design is focused around the diversified Brazilian ethnicity with faces of people with distinctly different features and skin tones.

Football has been a venue for massive racism. In more recent years, this sport has also been the center for anti-racism movements.

Despite rising concerns about the non-completion of airports in some of the host cities and other infrastructure concerns for the World Cup, it seems Brazil has already scored a major goal with this publicity stunt.

The World Cup Kicks off on June 12 and Brazil will opens the competition with a match against Croatia at 17:00 local time.
