A Brief Guide to Filing Refund Claims on Reebok's EasyTone
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday that Reebok International Ltd will shell out $25 million worth of refund to eligible consumers who bought Reebok EasyTone sneakers and Reebok apparel on or after Dec. 5, 2008.
David Vladeck, director of the FTC, said the agency and Reebok has prepared an application form for EasyTone's purchasers to fill out.
Reebok's refund request form has three parts -- consumer information, purchase information on Reebok toning shoes and purchase information on Reebok apparel.
The consumer information portions asks for personal data such as complete name, mailing address, contact details including phone numbers and e-mail address.
Within the purchase information on toning shoes, the sneakers to select are EasyTone, EasyTone Flip, RunTone, TrainTone, JumpTone, SimplyTone and SlimTone. Consumers are also asked to indicate the number of shoes purchased within the covered period.
For consumers who purchased Reebok apparel, the refund claim encompasses items like the EasyTone Capri, EasyTone Pants, EasyTone Shorts, EasyTone Long Bra Top, EasyTone Sleeveless Shirt, and EasyTone Short Sleeve Top. Adjacent to the selection of apparel is a box, where consumers will indicate the number of garments bought.
Reebok has maintained the refund amount for EasyTone shoes and apparel depends on factors such as the type of merchandise, the amount claimed and the quantity of purchased products. The amount reimbursed may double or retain the price of purchased products. It can be less than $50 for products such as Eligible Shoes, $40 each for a pair of EasyTone Capri and EasyTone Pants, and $25 for EasyTone Sleeveles Shirt, EasyTone Short Sleeve Top, and EasyTone Long Bra.
Consumers whose claim exceeds $200 will be asked to provide proof of purchase to authenticate their request. Reebok also mentioned that should the total amount of claim of all consumers eligible for refund exceeds the $25 million amount commissioned by the FTC, those consumers will also be asked to show a proof of purchase to validate their request.
The refund request application is subject to audit, verification and Court review. The FTC issued the order of settlement over claims of strengthening and toning leg and derriere muscles upon wearing EasyTone shoes, but which Reebok cannot support scientifically.
