Brisbane captain belied reports he had a hand in Ivan Henjak’s early demise as Brisbane coach
Brisbane captain denies he had a falling out with Brisbane former coach, Ivan Henjak
Broncos captain, Darren Lockyer has denied reports that he was behind the early departure of Brisbane coach, Ivan Henjak, adding that nor his players had anything to do with the changes in the club.
According to the Australian Associated Press, Dareen Lockyer was quick to clear his name and denied he had a hand to manipulate his team and his players to support any move for Henjak’s early exit.
He has admitted however, that he shared everyone’s poor evaluation of Henjak based on last year’s performance, highlighted by their loss that marked the first in 19 years. But Lockyer maintained that he and his team were not behind the latest changes in the team.
Lockyer also belied reports that he had a falling out with Henjak, enough motivation for him to support any move to early show Henjak to the exit door.
"I know there are rumours going around that I had a falling out with Ivan but that wasn't the case,” Lockyer said in defense, according to the AAP.
Though admitting they had a rough time last year, the team captain insisted that fingers should not be pointed at him and his players.
"We had a good relationship but at times last year when we were going through a pretty bad trot I think everyone was down a bit,” Lockyer explained.
"Ivan and I had a good relationship and there was never a falling out." He said, "I know there are rumours going around that I had a falling out with Ivan but that wasn't the case.
The Broncos captain called on to those involved to start picking up the pieces after the major changes being enforced in the Brisbane team.
"The players feel for Ivan but we have to all move forward in the best interest of the club and our fans," Lockyer said, added AAP, after he and the playing group were briefed on developments by White and operations manager Andrew Gee on Tuesday morning.
Henjak was walked to the door two years ahead of his contract. Still citing the report by the AAP, the IBTimes reported that the club management offered him three months pay in exchange for his silence about the events surrounding his early departure from the team.
