The unnamed Brisbane man is facing kidnapping and rape charges for forcefully taking on Aug 13 a 20-year-old German tourist, feeding her a chocolate containing the sedative zolpidem, using cable to tie her to a bed and raping her.

The victim, a backpacker, responded to an online job advertisement for a nanny in Stanthorpe. When she arrived at night near the Queensland-New South Wales boundary, the man picked her up.

Once the effect of Stilnox wore off, she woke up at 1 am the next day on the roadside, she told the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The accused, a cleaner, was arrested on Monday and will remain in jail after Magistrate Linda Bradford-Morgan denied him bail. The hearing resumes on Nov 24.

Meanwhile, a prominent 62-year-old humanitarian lawyer was accused of raping four young men in his Sydney office. The sexual assault by David Bitel, allegedly took place between 1995 and 2004.

On Tuesday, three additional charges made up of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and one count of assault with an act of indecency was filed against Bitel, who lost his court petition to keep his identity from being revealed by media in the rape charges.

Most of the complainants were migrants from India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh who initially sought his services as immigration lawyer.
