Brisbane government plans to put together a 30 Day Flood Taskforce that will assess the damages from the flooding and make the appropriate recommendations.

Property Council of Australia Queensland Executive Director Kathy Mac Dermott said this initiative will ensure that the hearsay and conjecture that is currently permeating the discussion on future development in Brisbane can quickly be replaced by facts and action by Council.

“The Property Council has identified restoring investor confidence as a key challenge following the floods, and this taskforce can play a strong role in delivering this, “ she said. “Too many have been too quick to jump to conclusions in relation to the future of flood affected properties and the appropriateness of developments that were affected. There is no doubt that this has damaged。“

“Failure to do this will only worsen Queensland’s housing affordability crisis as the construction of new homes will fall further behind demand."
