Britain St Jude Storm Update: Stormageddon Tally Gives Off 13 Dead, Thousands Without Electricity (PHOTOS)
At least 13 people have reportedly died from storm St Jude that blasted Britain and western Europe on Monday. It also toppled trees, inundated lowlands and forced power supply operators to cut supply, leaving thousands without electricity.
The Atlantic storm St Jude gave extensive damage to power lines across the East of England and South East. UK Power Networks said its excessively high winds interrupted electricity supplies to about 40,000 customers.
In Southern England, more than 600,000 homes and businesses were left without power on Monday.
Around 75,000 homes meanwhile were affected in France when power supply had to be cut, as operators feared the winds which reached 100 kilometres per hour.
According to the Energy Networks Association, a body representing UK and Ireland electricity and gas network operators, the badly affected areas blasted by Atlantic storm St Jude were in the south-east and East Anglia. It likewise reported blackouts in the West Country.
"The south-west took a bit of a hit in the early hours, but it doesn't seem to have caused that many people to have lost their supplies," Tim Field, a spokesman for the industry body, was quoted by The Telegraph.
"There is a population density point. If you lose a power line in the south-east it affects more people."
Mr Field implored on customers to remain patient as they work to restore electricity supply which was cut when Atlantic storm St Jude's high winds damaged both low voltage and high voltage lines. He vowed they are working steadfastly but gave no definite timeline as to when full power restoration will be achieved.

Of the 13 reported deaths, six came from Germany, five from Britain and one each from the Netherlands and Denmark. One woman has been reported missing in France.
