A UK man was sentenced to imprisonment for 27 years on Tuesday for conspiring on kidnapping, torturing and eating children. The man, who built a dungeon in his own home in Massachusetts to execute his plans, admitted to the charges laid against him. He is supposed to spend almost 27 years in a U.S. jail.

Geoffrey Portway is a 40-year-old British citizen. He was already charged earlier in May for offences on child pornography. Additionally, he was also accused of plotting a kidnap and the subsequent violence.

Judge Timothy Hillman sentenced Mr Portway in a Worcester district court. U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz was speaking with journalists outside the court. She said that the sentence was long as well as serious. The sentence shows the grave nature of the crime the man had committed. It also shows that his crimes did involve victims, she said. Ms Ortiz said that she was grateful that Mr Portway was stopped before he could cause more serious damage to society.

Federal agents discovered the sound-proof dungeon in Worcester while they were investigating crimes involving children. They also discovered a homemade coffin suitable for a child, a steel-topped table, a steel cage and butcher kits in Mr Portway's basement, prosecutors informed.

In addition to these items, federal agents also got evidence for over 4,500 exchanges involving child pornography on Mr Portway's computer. Mr Portway later admitted that he had online chatting sessions with innumerable people, discussing a mutual interest in kidnapping, raping, killing as well as eating children, according to prosecutors. Additionally, he admitted to dealing in child pornography as well.

A larger form of federal investigation in Massachusetts regarding child pornography started in 2010. The Portway case is a consequence of this investigation process. The investigation has now expanded internationally as about 60 offenders have already been prosecuted. In addition, over 160 children have been rescued after they were identified as victims of such crimes, according to officials.
