Sean Edwards, a British professional racing driver who drove for Project 1's Team Allyouneed in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, has been killed in a car crash on Tuesday. Edwards was 26 and he is the son of former F1 driver Guy Edwards.

As reported by ABC News, Edwards was sitting in the passenger seat when the car hit a wall protecting a solid barrier. He was taking part as an instructor for young drivers at the track in Queensland Raceway when the tragic incident happened. The driver of the said vehicle is alive, but has endured stern injuries.

"Time to hit the Queensland Raceway today," Edwards posted on Twitter. "It should be fun and I hope there are not too many kangaroos like at Bathurst," he added.

He also expressed his excitement in visiting Australian on his Facebook account. "First time to Australia, I have heard great things so I am looking forward my two-day stay here," said Edwards.

The general manager Keith Lewis and senior officer Mike Dyson were among the persons who came to try to rescue the racing driver. "Lewis and Dyson got into our fire truck, and they were able pull the car from the burning tyres," said Queensland Raceway chief executive officer John Tetley. "They had to cut the car in half and pull the pieces apart to reach the driver," said Tetley. "We have probably utilized approximately 40 fire extinguishers and a fire bomb weighing 50 kilograms to put out the fire from the burning tyres. It is saddening to hear news of people dying at a very young age. Edwards had a promising career ahead of him. He showed an amazing season in racing and he has worked so hard to make a name for himself as a professional racing driver. He finished first in the FIA GT European Championship in 2006. He ranked second on the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for two consecutive years, in 2011 and 2012.
