A YouTube video of 4-year-old Bruno Mars singing his love for his mother is uncovered as news of her death is confirmed. Bernadette Hernandez was taken at the Queens Medical Centre in Honolulu after suffering a heart attack on Friday. She died Saturday of brain aneurysm at age 55.

The tragic news was reported by the Associated Press, quoting a publicist for Bruno’s label Atlantic Records. No other information was given.

Bruno, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, has always been vocal about his love for his family, especially his mum, who nurtured his interest in music from the start.

Just last month, he has posted a Twitter pic of him smoking an electronic cigarette, saying he is switching to the tobacco-free product for his mother.

“Day 1 E-Cig, Gotta do it!!! This is for you mom,” he wrote, adding in another post, “Happy mothers day mom! I love you.”

He has remained silent online since Bernadette’s death; his last post on Twitter was on Friday.

Nevertheless, fans have unearthed a video of the hitmaker singing “I Love You Mum” when he was just 4 years old. The video, which was uploaded last year, shows a montage of Bruno’s pictures as a little child.

Young Bruno can be heard in the video, singing, “I love you, mum. You are my favourite girl.”

Bernadette, a hula dancer and singer who migrated to Hawaii from the Philippines, had been very proud of her son. In a past interview in her hometown, she told the local press about how she raised her Grammy-winning son.

“You know how Filipinos are. We are very close,” she said. “I still think of him as my baby and keep forgetting he is a grown man.”

Her message to Bruno was short but filled with love.

“Bruno, I’m so, so proud of you. I knew this was going to happen, but not to this extent. I’m so proud of you. Keep up the good work. And don’t forget where you came from.”
