Brutality Justified: Egypt Moves on
Many a common man seems to have the conviction that whatever the police did to the protesters in Cairo is justified.
Some believes that the army has been patient enough for way to long. They did the right thing by attacking the Islamists. Some are quite impressed by the efficiency of the army while they handled the mob.
As Mohamed Abdul Hafez talks to NY Times, he does not find it a big deal that hundreds were killed by the police the other day. The death of the Islamists was the price to pay for the sake of the country's security, he believes. Hafez is a teacher by profession.
While pro-Morsi protesters mourn over the brutality by the police, there seems to be no compassion for the deceased from a major population of the country. Akmal William, who is a shopkeeper, feels that it was a necessary step by the police. The shopkeeper spoke to NY Times to give his candid opinion that the police need to be strict.
Human rights organisations from all over the world have already condemned the brutal act. Nations have issued official statements which show their disgust regarding the act of violence. President Barack Obama has reportedly started reconsidering the relation between the two countries in case the instability and violence continue in the country.
On the other hand, many Egyptians have a totally different view on the incident. The supporters of Morsi are often considered as terrorists by a significant number of people in the country. Many believe that the Islamists pose a great threat to the country's security. It was only the army that could save the country from the Morsi supporters.
Even though many felt that the bloodbath was a tragic incident, the alternative of the same would have been even more tragic. The political party of Morsi was responsible for holding the nation back with endless protests and sit-ins. If the army did not behave the way they did, the protesters would have continued to believe that Egypt was a nation without a backbone.
The army has proved that Egypt is no coward in handling those who pose any threat to the country, believes a major population.
