MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson drew applause on Twitter after answering back to a hater who says he was unable to "keep a social network alive." The quick tweet exchange fits under a hashtag "burn" situation, in which the "attacked party" manages to strike back using the attacker's premise and word use.

Anderson aka MySpaceTom was reacting on "fear over Instagram's terms change" via his @myspacetom account on Twitter. He describes the fear to be "ridiculous," adding, "Get real, folks!"

User @polotapia tweets back, saying, "says the guys that [sic] was not able to keep a social network alive."

Anderson tweets a comeback that would later be re-tweeted for over 8,600 times and favored more than 5,800 times within 12 hours:

"@polotapia says the guy who sold myspace in 2005 for $580 million while you slave away hoping for a half-day off."

As the comeback tweet gained fame, @polotapia removed his account (or perhaps changed his account name). Anderson took notice and tweeted:

"the guy I answered back deleted his account. does that mean I win? #winning #myspacetom"

Anderson's tweet has since been described "the funniest tweet reply," which merits "the Twitter burn of the year award." Someone also tweeted, "Don't mess with Tom Anderson."

Another user took the occasion as an opportunity to ask, "How much money do you still have from MySpace?"

MySpace Tom gamely replies, "I got more son, I invested that cheese."

Anderson later shared the Twitter exchange with Google + which is another social network. He writes:

"It seems the main thing people are interested in over there is showing off, one-upping each other and fighting. I've noticed that this kind of behavior before gets a lot of attention on Twitter, but never experimented with it myself. I rarely attack trolls... I mean who cares? Am I being too negative to assume people just like to see a fight, or is it maybe just because it was funny? Twitter's 140 character limit makes it a nice medium for jokes."

Anderson and colleagues started building MySpace in 2003. Friendster was the most popular social community at the time. MySpace Tom's photo was the network's default profile image, which grew popular because he is the first "friend" of each new MySpace user by default. Hence, each MySpace user is "never alone." The social network later became a page for budding indie artists promoting their music, among others.

On Twitter, Anderson's profile description says, "Enjoying being retired." He frequently posts landscape photos on Instagram and he's active on other social networks, too.
