Bus passengers in Brisbane are bound to be affected by a strike action planned by drivers and workers on Thursday, 21 July.

Thousands of bus passengers are expected to be inconvenienced in Redland Bay and Brisbane area as Veolia Transport drivers declared an industrial action for 28 hours, ABC Radio and new.com.au said in separate reports.

Veolia Transport will begin their strike from 4am (AEST) on Thursday to stage their long running pay dispute with the company management.

"If we're still hitting a brick wall, there's possible further industrial action down the track," Transport Workers Union secretary Peter Biagini today told ABC Radio this morning.

Outgoing Translink chief Peter Strachan said the department would look at what alternative arrangements could be made.

"It will have an effect on customers, particularly our school customers," he told ABC Radio.

Mr Strachan this week announced he would leave Translink for the UK Transport Department where he will oversee transport for the 2012 London Olympics.
