Cairns Airport has set its sights on Singapore as it continues to strengthen its international services network.

As Jetstar announced specifics on its latest international flight services to Auckland yesterday, Stephen Gregg, Cairns airport chief, also disclosed of their plans to set direct routes to Singapore, Bali, and China.

Jetstar presently sets off from Cairns to Bali and Singapore via Darwin airport.

"Singapore is a gateway we would very much like to be involved with and we will continue to look for an opportunity for direct services," he said.

"Bali has great potential," the airport boss said.

Mr. Gregg stated as Jetstar completes its aircraft fleet, he would be aiming to add Bali and Singapore to the priority list.

Cairns airport has already noted intentions of attracting a Chinese airline, believed to be China Southern, to provide flight services and more charter services.

David Koczkar, commercial executive manager of Jetstar, said the airline and Cairns Airport had a strong mutual partnership and pricing agreement for the long-term.

"We are very keen to grow [our services]," he said.

Simon Westaway, corporate chief of Jetstar, said their company and the airport had existing long-term agreements to improve their domestic and international flight services.

Mr. Westaway said a direct route to Singapore and Bali has good potential though Jetstar is currently content with how services were run through Darwin.

"Singapore is an exciting proposition," he added.
