Cake Slice From Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton Wedding Under Auction
In an interesting update, it is revealed that a piece of fruit cake from Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton's wedding has gone under hammer for a jaw dropping price of $7500. The cake slice has been sold in auction happened at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California.
A three-year-old slice of wedding cake from Prince William and Duchess Catherine's wedding was up for auction in the recent event. The auction house expected it to fetch between $1000 to $2000. But it surpassed all expectations and got sold for a whopping amount of $7500 instead.
The buyer of the three years old cake slice also got something else in the package. It was a blank invitation of the Royal couple's wedding on the Queen's monogramed stationary. The slice was a piece of the eight-tiered wedding cake which was made by Fiona Cairns and her team.
The cake was definitely one of its kind which took five weeks to get ready. It was made to last as long as 13 months. CNN money disclosed that the highly priced slice was sold to the auction house by one of the Royal wedding invitees whose identity is kept under wraps. The identity of the Royals' fan who bought this expensive cake slice is also not disclosed yet.
The recently held auction also featured five evening gowns worn by Late Princess Diana. The dresses were sold at about $70000 to $100000 each, totaling to amount of $458,000. These attires were sold by Diana at another auction in 1997, just a few months before she was killed untimely in a car accident.
It is also reported that Prince Williams persuaded his mother to sell her dresses so that the money thus raised could be donated for charity. At that time, the dresses were sold for between $5,000 and $18,000 each. Since then they have been kept utmost condition.
