California Police discover puppy addicted to heroin & meth in motel room
A 40-year-old California man is facing animal cruelty charges after Tustin Police Department officers found the man and his terrier mix puppy drugged in a motel room. The dog, when tested, was found to have heroin, methamphetamine and nicotine in his system.
The puppy, Bubba, is now recovering at the Orange County Animal Care after he was treated for his condition, reports The Telegraph. The pet owner, Joshua West – on parole for drug violations – had heroin, meth and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
West and another man were arrested in March for possession of large quantity of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. He would not regain ownership of Bubba because the puppy would be put up for adoption upon completion of rehabilitation.
“Bubba is still receiving medical care and once he is fully recovered, he will be placed with a rescue organisation who can find him a forever home that can provide the proper care he will need in the future,” the police department said in a statement.
Lieutenant Robert Wright from the Tustin Police Department says it is the first time he heard of an animal being under the influence of drugs. However, in 2015, a teenage gang fed drugs to Chunky, a Chihuahua, broke its neck and set the poor animal on fire.
The Thanet Gazette reports that the juvenile delinquents stole Chunky from its home and tortured it for hours. They then dumped the dog near a garbage pile in Margate, Kent, but the Chihuahua survived the ordeal in what the RSPCA considers one of the worst cases it had even handled.
