Campbell's Redesigns Logo For First Time In Over 50 Years
Campbell's soup cans have long been known for their classic design. For the first time in over 50 years, the brand will get a redesign with a more “modernized logo script.”
The design is such a staple piece that it even inspired famous artist Andy Warhol’s “Campbell's Soup Cans” piece in 1961. The red and white label will remain but have an updated feel for the digital age. The newly designed cans have already hit stores.
The changes added "still evokes the same sense of comfort, goodness, and Americana," Campbell Soup Co. said in a press release on its website.
The brand hired street-style artist Sophia Chang to create its first-ever non-fungible token (NFT), a cryptocurrency “digital artwork” that someone can purchase with crypto to "own."
“Some of the most famous pop art ever created was inspired by the Campbell’s red and white can — the design is as much a staple of the grocery aisle as it is American culture,” said Chang.
The money raised with the NFT will be donated to Feeding America.
Some of the new changes include a modernly designed centered gold logo on the front of the soup can. The shadow behind the word “Campbells” was removed and the font that was based on the founder Joseph Campbell's handwriting was slightly changed.
The word “soup” on the front of the can was also made to be smaller and more gold. Along with the new font “C” from Campbell's is in the “fleur de lis” symbol on both sides of the word soup.
The new soup cans also have a little hidden piece inspired from the 1898 can, which has a slanted “O” in the word soup.
The company said the change was inspired by a surge in purchases during the pandemic, and the design is to welcome a new generation of customers who are cooking at home more.
“We’ve been on a journey to reimagine this iconic brand and appeal to new generations of consumers who are cooking at home more than ever, while still honoring our rich history,” said Linda Lee, chief marketing officer of meals and beverages.
Soup cans that will receive the changes include, tomato, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, and chicken noodle.
