Can The ASUS Transformer Pad, Infinity 700, Compete Against Apple's iPad 3?
The looming news about the "big event" about Apple's iPad 3 on March 7 got everyone excited about this new device. On other hand, other people were also busy comparing Apple's iPad 3 to other worthy tablets such as the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700.
ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700
During the Mobile World Congress 2012, Asus renamed their tablets as Transformer Pads and also revealed a new tablet model dubbed as the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700. The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700 has a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen with a high resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It also has a Gorilla Glass which gives protection against scratches. It is available in 3G, 4G, (both have 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM Snapdragon S4 Krait processors) and Wi-Fi models (1.6GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 T33 CPU). In terms of built-in storage, it has 32GB and 64GB with an option for expandable memory of up to 32GB. There are two cameras in this tablet, one rear camera with 8MP (autofocus and LED flash) and a 2MP front camera. As for battery life, it has a standard Li-Po 25Wh battery that can last for at least 10 hours. It also has the usual connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, LE, USB 2.0 and HDMI port.
The OS for this tablet would be the latest model of Android which is Android 4.0 or Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). No official news about the price and its availability has been revealed but there are news reports stating that the 32GB model would be around US$500 while the 64GB model would be at US$600. It is speculated to be out in the market around June 2012.
iPad 3
Though official information about Apple's iPad 3 will be revealed during the "big event" on March 7, there was already "leaked" information about its specifications. According to the news reports, it will have a 9.7-inch Retina display with 2048 x 1536 resolution and quad-core A6 chip. Aside from that, battery life for iPad 3 is expected to double from 6,500mAH to 14,000mAH which would mean longer performance and usage for users. Camera features for iPad 3 will also have significant improvement which could more or less equate to iPhone 4S which is 8MP. In terms of price, rumors are indicating that the new iPad 3 will be at least US$70 more expensive than the previous model.
The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700 can certainly pose as a great competition against Apple's iPad 3 based on its features and specifications. Though that is the case, the final decision regarding this matter should be made once official details about iPad 3 have been officially released.
