Canada Film Producer Raymond Law Charged of Sexual Assault, Prohibited from Being Alone with any Woman
Canadian film producer Raymond Law is accused of serious sex abuse by five women who claim to have been drugged and thereafter sexually assaulted. Apparently, three of those women were videotaped as well.
Law is facing the wrath of the law as no less than 15 criminal charges are held against him, CBC reports. The criminal charges include 4 counts of sexual assault and 4 counts of administering or attempting to administer a "stupefying or overpowering drug". He is also charged for recording or observing someone naked unlawfully. The charges against him also include unlawfully watching someone engaged in explicit sexual activity. There is also a charge against him of sexual assault which resulted in bodily harm.
The co-accused of the 51-year-old film producer is Alan T M Lai who is also facing 7 similar charges which involve 3 of the women. The assaults have reported occurred between Dec 2012 and June 2013.
Those who are aware of the independent film "Ecstasy" may relate to the charges against Law who was the producer of the film. The film also dealt with young women who were lured into a life of sexual abuse. However, none of the people involved in the film has accused Law of any sexual violation.
Carmela Evangelista played a small part in the film. She met Law during the filmmaking process but did not find anything during the shoot that could be considered suspicious. On the other hand, she does not deny that young women often get sexually exploited in the film industry. Ms Evangelista, who is also a talent agent for a long time, suggests young women must have an agent and a manager. They should never attend meetings after dinner, she suggests. She told the CBC Investigates team that an adult should accompany actors under 18 if an meeting in the evening had to be attended.
Law has been released on $20,000 bail. However, there are 19 conditions that he must follow in the meantime. He faces an overnight curfew which bars him from coming out of his condo, False Creek, between 10 pm and 7 am. He is not allowed to carry any sort of video camera or be alone with any woman. He is also not allowed to buy a drink for a woman who does not belong to his family.
The charges against him, on the contrary, are yet to be proved. He is expected to reappear in court late Jan 2014.
