Several prominent female personalities in Canada have voiced their opinion in favour of bringing back the original lyrics of "O Canada".

Kim Campbell, former prime minister, and author Margaret Atwood are among the top women celebs in the country, who are promoting the restoration of the national anthem. The group is accusing the national anthem of gender bias. They demand the anthem to get restored to the original version which had a neutral perspective regarding gender.

Presently the words of the national anthem say: "in all thy sons command". The protesting group wants it to be changed to "in all of us command". The changed words would be quite similar to the original lyrics: "in all thou dost command". The words of the national anthem were changed a hundred years back in 1913.

The activists in the group also involve Sally Goddard who is the mother of Nichola Goddard. Nichola Goddard was the first woman soldier from Canada to get killed in combat. Retired Senator Dr Vivienne Poy and Senator Nancy Ruthare are also a part of the movement.

The group has set up a Web site (RestoreOurAnthem.ca) for the movement. The Web site will officially be launched on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the original change made to the English lyrics by Judge Robert Stanley Weir. The protesting group demands that there was no recorded reason for the revision of words made in 1913.

Every Canadian is asked to join the movement which will motivate Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his government to do the amendment. When asked if the government has better things to do, the Web site replies that the government is expected to solve multiple issues at the same time. That is why the National Anthem issue should not be considered less important.

This is not the first time when the change of words in the national anthem was recommended. It was already done in 1986 and 2002.
