Boxing trainers Joel Diaz and Yoel Judah both think that Canelo Alvarez of Mexico has what it takes to take down Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico in their middleweight showdown next month. The world-renowned trainers also stated that while the Mexican is quick and strong, he still wouldn’t have enough strength to beat Gennady Golovkin, who gave an impressive performance in his last fight.

"I think somewhere in the fight, [Canelo] stops Cotto. Canelo's just too sharp of a puncher, he's too quick, he's too strong right now for Cotto. Canelo will not be ready for a Triple G,” Judah stated in an interview with FightHype.com.

“Cotto is a great fighter but he’s already past his prime,” Diaz said in the same interview, agreeing with Judah in seeing a Canelo victory on Nov. 21.

Both Judah and Diaz had a rich experience in the fighting business, with Judah being a former three-time kickboxing champion and Diaz a former boxer who battled in title fights in the lightweight division. Both took up jobs as boxing trainers after they retired from their respective sports.

The Cotto-Canelo fight is considered the biggest match-up in the boxing since Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao last May. With Mayweather retiring from the sport after a fight last September, the winner of the Cotto-Canelo fight will be considered one of the best and could also replace Mayweather as one of the top-ranked fighters in the sport.

Golovkin defeated David Lemieux last Saturday, Oct. 17, in New York, and he is currently the hottest commodity in boxing. Golovkin is the International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association middleweight champion.

The winner of the Cotto-Canelo fight will take down the World Boxing Council middleweight championship. He will also most likely be considered as Golovkin’s next opponent to determine the undisputed champion in the middleweight division.
