Capital One Cup Third Round - Manchester City takes on Wigan Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur plays Aston Villa

Manchester City will open their Capital One Cup campaign against Wigan Atheltic on Tuesday at Etihad Stadium while Tottenham Hotspurs will try to continue their winning ways against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Fresh from their sensational 4-1 win over intra-city rival Manchester United at the weekend, Manchester City will look to build momentum from their recent exploit as they play reigning FA Cup champion Wigan Athletic.

Defender Micah Richards could suit up for the first time for Manchester City after nursing a hamstring injury. However, the Sky Blues could miss the service of defender Gael Clichy and playmaker David Silva due to thigh problems. Still, Manchester City will be fielding a loaded lineup comprised by likely substitutes James Milner Stevan Jovetic, and Joleon Lescott.

"I wasn't involved against Wigan, but there was definitely something lacking.

"Wigan have always played us well and have been a bit of a bogey team, but I would never say the guys weren't up for it because we always want to win, but I just felt they wanted it more on the day," Richards told ESPN FC.

"That game is in the past now but we have to make sure we put things right in this game and try and progress in the competition," added Richards, who did not play in the Capital One Cup final last May.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa

Tottenham has been playing remarkable football despite the departure of ace forward Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. In fact, the Spurs have already collected 12 points with four wins and one solitary loss at the hands of Arsenal.

Now, Manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking for his team to step the level of their play a notch higher in their Capital One Cup third round rumble with Aston Villa.

On the other hand, Aston Villa Manager Paul Lambert considers Tuesday's fixture with the Spurs as a nice challenge to keep them prepared for Saturday's matchup with Manchester City.

"The main one is Saturday but we'll do our best to get through the Tottenham tie."
