‘Captain America 3’: Directors On The Possible Return Of Supervillain Red Skull
"Captain America 3" hasn't yet gotten its official title. However, the highly anticipated instalment of the franchise is creating quite a stir among the fans already. More and more details, spoilers and speculations continue to pop up.
On Sept. 27, 2014, Comic Book reported that in an AMC Movie Talk interview, "The Winter Soldier" and "Captain America 3" directors talked about the possible return of a super villain. Fans have been wondering who Chris Evans' Steve Rogers could be battling in third instalment of the franchise. Even though the details about the villain are yet to be revealed, the two brothers hinted at the possible comeback of Red Skull.
When the interviewee asked about Red Skull's appearance in "Captain America 3," Anthony Russo revealed that this has been a topic of discussion prior to even they signed the deal for the project. Since they weren't present at the time of such a discussion, they refuse to comment on the topic.
"Specifically, the tone that we were chasing in that movie...I know we have a guy in a computer, but the tone we were chasing was sort of that conspiracy thriller," Joe Russo added to the conversation while explaining why Red Skull didn't fit in "The Winter Soldier."
Joe Russo describes Red Skull as a "fantastical character," that was not fitting in the plot that involved breaking down of S.H.I.E.L.D.
But Joe did not deny the possibility of Red Skull's return. He suggests that the supervillain is "certainly in the rogues" gallery of Captain America characters." According to the director, since he is the "preeminent figure" in "Captain America" storyline, his return cannot be precluded.
Red Skull was last seen in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger" and was portrayed by Hugo Weaving. The character's real name is Johann Schmidt, who is a Nazi general.
Reports about Red Skull's appearance are swirling around since early September. In an interview with Screen Rant, Anthony Russo did not directly reveal the details about Red Skull's return but hinted at the probability by saying there are "inventive and creative ways to make the characters relevant again."
"Captain America 3" is still in the works and it is expected to bring some new and old characters together. The film is slated to release on May 6, 2016.
