'Captain America: Civil War': Directors balance dark tone with humour; aware of Steve's lack of love life
“Captain America: Civil War” will not be another “dark” movie by the Russo brothers. The entry of new characters allowed the directors to balance between the more serious core of the movie with humour.
In a recent interview with Collider, the directors explained that their pattern is to find something new to do with each movie and their forthcoming movie will be no different. When asked whether the movie will be a lot “darker,” the directors said that it was a “complicated” movie.
The main plot of the movie revolves around the superheroes being split into two factions and fighting each other. Even though the movie has a lot of dark elements in it, there will still be “a good portion” of humour in it, the directors revealed.
The directors pointed out that there will be new characters who will be coming into “Captain America: Civil War,” from a world that has a “comedic” tone. The directors did not confirm if they were referring to Spider-Man. The directors pointed out that not all the characters have the same history as the Avengers.
They teased the growing relationship between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). The directors said that the two characters’ relationship will evolve in the movie and they will be more like a “surrogate family” for each other.
In another interview with ComicBook.com, the directors said that they were aware of the lack of love interest of Steve. “ That falls under the surprise in the story as well, but we can only keep Cap romantically uninvolved for so long,” the directors said.
The directors also joked about Steve having a romantic interest in Bucky (Sebastian Stan). They, however, did not reveal much about the romantic possibilities for Steve in “Captain America: Civil War.” Fans may only get to find out more about Steve’s possible romance and about Spider-Man when the movie releases.
