‘Captain America: Civil War': Paul Bettany teases Vision could be good or evil
Paul Bettany was present during the first ever Asia Pop Comic Convention held at the World Trade Centre in the Philippines on Sunday. During a panel interview about “Captain America: Civil War,” the actor talked about Vision and teased his character’s capability to also turn evil.
Bettany remained coy when asked to share specific details about what happens in “Captain America: Civil War.” But he talked about how he prepared for his character by reading comics. He also teased what fans should expect to see next of Vision in the film.
“He must be both omnipotent and yet totally naive at the same time. Is he going to be a force of good or a force of evil? It was really interesting, fun to play with, because he’s dangerous, you don’t know if he’s going to go one way or another. I’m continuing that theme in Captain America 3,” he said according to the Philippine Entertainment Portal report.
In “Captain America: Civil War” the Avengers will be divided because of the Superhuman Registration Act and it’s still unclear where Vision will side. His statements during the interview make it vaguer if he chooses to be with Captain America or his maker Tony Stark.
In the same panel interview, Bettany also talked about his costume and the gruelling task of putting on makeup for Vision. Bettany said it took 2 hours to put on his makeup but admitted he got used to putting on his costume in “Captain America: Civil War.” Paul also shared how shooting for the sequel is different with the “Avengers” films.
“We all had a bit more fun. You know, there were more improvised jokes between me and [Robert] Downey Jr., and me and Chris Evans, and it was a really loose atmosphere on-set,” he said.
Bettany also revealed how he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was offered the role of Vision. The actor recalled that he just came out of a meeting with his producer who told him his movie career was over when his phone rang. It was Joss Whedon on the other line asking him if he wants to be a superhero in the next “Avengers” movie. Bettany said he immediately accepted the offer.
