Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. appeared in the “Jimmy Kimmel” show bearing gifts. Both actors, who play Captain America and Iron Man respectively, were given the go-signal by Marvel to show the official movie poster and premiere the trailer of “Captain America: Civil War” on national television.

The official trailer offered fans the first glimpse on Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, marked the return of a familiar character from “The Incredible Hulk” with the appearance of a thick white document possibly related to the Superhuman Registration Act in the comic books.

In an interview with Empire, "Captain America: Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed some of the Easter eggs found in the trailer.

1. General Ross returns. William Hurt’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” has been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Edward Norton’s “Incredible Hulk” came out in 2008. In the film, General Ross is Bruce Banner’s archnemesis. Notably, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will not be included in this film because he is presumably somewhere outside the Earth embarking in a cosmic adventure with Thor.

Russo brothers, explain that Ross’ return is no coincidence.

“We thought it would be interesting to take a character who had a fanatical anti-superhero point of view. Now he’s become much savvier and more political and has put himself in a position of power, not unlike a Colin Powell. He’s cornering the Avengers politically now, he’s out-manoeuvring them.”

2. Black Panther makes his debut. Chadwick Boseman’s “Black Panther” project is one of the most anticipated films in the Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on previous reports, he will be on Tony Stark’s side come Civil War but according to the directors, his motivation for going against Cap’s team is very different from Tony Stark’s.

3. The Accords (Sokovia Accords: Framework for the Registration and Deployment of Enhanced Individuals) is MCU’s version of the Superhuman Registration Act. In the comic books, the SRA was the catalyst for the divide in the Avengers lot. This time, ‘the Accords’ is a document manifestation of the world trying to regulate the Avengers initiative moving forward. Joe explains, “It has to do with the effects of Ultron and Sokovia [the small city where the Avengers’ battle with Ultron took place], and New York City [where Loki unleased chaos in the first “Avengers” film], and Washington D.C. [where helicarriers fell at the end of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”].”

He added that examining the third acts of the Marvel films, the collateral damage caused in the aforementioned 3 films could set the motion for a plot to control the Avengers.

“Captain America: Civil War” hits theatres in May 6, 2016.
