Carbon Dioxide Capture System Receives Funding Boost
Ground breaking new technology for the capture of carbon dioxide from power stations will be tested by Process Group at Hazelwood Power Station following a grant from Brown Coal Innovation Australia (BCIA).
The three-year $3.6 million project will be undertaken by Process Group to develop US-based WES Absorber technology to commercialisation.
With assistance from BCIA, Process Group will collaborate with the Co-Operative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) for field trials on an existing CO2CRC carbon capture plant to be installed at International Power’s Hazelwood Power Station in Victoria.
“We are delighted to receive this vital funding boost from BCIA,” said Craig Dugan, Managing Director of Process Group.
“The WES Absorber offers potential not only to half the size and cost of the large absorbers in CCS plants, it also allows the use of new high capacity absorption solvents being developed for carbon capture.
“Given research shows the capture component is typically 70% of the overall cost of CCS, the potential for the WES technology enormous,” added Mr Dugan.
