Samantha Jones has finally met Carrie Bradshaw. “The Carrie Diaries,” the prequel to the highly successful HBO series “Sex and the City,” has debuted one of the titular character’s best friends during its second season premiere on Friday.

“The Carrie Diaries” stars AnnaSophia Robb as the young Carrie Bradshaw, who was played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the concluded series, and chronicles her teenage years in the ‘80s. No Mr Big yet, as Carrie would meet her future husband decades after, but she gets to meet a future BFF.

The introduction of the man-crazy but loyal character in the series was first announced in July, with actress Lindsey Gort nabbing the role made famous by Kim Cattrall in “SATC.”

“In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on ‘Sex and the City,’ we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones. Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part,” executive producer Amy B. Harris said in July.

“Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones.”

And what a choice that was! Gort really looks and acts so much like a young Cattrall that people’s reactions to the character premiere in the show have been overwhelmingly positive so far.

Cattrall appeared to be just as pleased with her younger counterpart.

“Kim famously tweeted me her blessing!” Gort excitedly told Hollywood Life about getting a shout-out from the older actress.

I had never been on twitter before and my friend was like, ‘She tweeted about you! She said your name!’ So I signed up and I tweeted back to her. She tweeted back, ‘So happy you’re playing fearless Sam, the key to her is her heart. She never judges, though she loves.’

“And I say I want to get that tattooed on me. She told me, ‘You know the personality can feel like a persona, can feel like a responsibility, but just remember, she’s just a girl.’ And it’s true, because people think it’s such a character, but really it’s just a person. It’s been very helpful for me!”

The first episode of the second season has seen Carrie living in Manhattan for the summer. She then meets Samantha, an older woman who is cousin with her friend Donna LaDonna, and the two become unofficial roommates.

“The Carrie Diaries” airs Tuesday on Fox8 in Australia.
