Carrie Underwood's Australian road trip
On her first tour to the country, the American Idol winner and country music chart topper was forced to travel by bus to Melbourne due to the volcanic ash.
Carrie Underwood landed in Sydney hours after midnight to promote a new version of her record Play On, but her supposedly swift travel was prolonged by a bus ride to Melbourne. "We got to see a bit of the land I wasn't expecting to see" said the Idol in an article posted by The Australian. Although the bus ride was unexpected, the singer made sure to enjoy the free sight seeing. The 28-year-old from Oklahama, USA joined American Idol just before she was off to graduate from college without thinking that she'll win. After winning the fourth season of the highly rated showo, the humble Southern singer launched her massive career and won numerous awards for her singles.
One of the American Idol's most successful alumni, Carrie Underwood won five Grammy awards for her albums Some Hearts, Carnival Ride and her current record Play On. Underwood not only tops the charts, but she also one of the best-selling country acts of today. Her debut album Some Hearts is certified seven times platinum, while Carnival Ride sold over 3 million copies worldwide. As of 2009, Play On is certified double platinum and continues to sell thousands of records each day. In just six years, the singer has achieved so much that she feels she still has "a lot to learn".
"I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster, but I don't want to get off" adds Carrie in the interview. The blonde country singer expressed her fondness for the Aussie nation as she confirms a return appearance after her short gig on Saturday. "I would love to tour here", says the singer in the same report by The Australian.
Carrie is set to perform at the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane for her Australian fans on Saturday noon.
