The media is buzzing with news and rumours about the new line of devices soon to hit the markets. The big players like Apple, Samsung, Sony and Microsoft are said to be working on a smart watch device. Some of these devices will reportedly be launched in a matter of weeks.

The traditional giants of the watch industry are meanwhile watching the developments with a keen eye. Do the veteran companies in the industry have a trick up their sleeves to thwart the attempts of the tech companies to move into their territory?

In a report from New York Times, Casio seems to be ready for the smart watch battle. So what makes the company confident of taking on the challenge posed by these other companies?

Consider for instance that Casio is a multibillion dollar giant; the company has expertise in electronic watch making, electronic dictionaries, calculators, electronic music instruments and compact cameras. Some analysts say that Casio can be just a screw turn away from making a smart phone of their own.

Is Casio working on a secret project of its own? If it is, the company has been very tight lipped about it. But the message from Kazuo Kashio, President and CEO can shed some light about the future of the company.

"There is potentially unlimited demand for products that can fulfill human needs that are not currently being met. As we discover new unmet needs and create completely new markets, it benefits not only Casio's specific stakeholders, but also society as a whole." Mr Kashio said in his message.

Analysts opine that it has been increasingly realised by companies that connectivity and interactivity is the future of many of the products found in a house or office. For instance the ability to control the fan, lights, refrigerator, TV and other devices is possible with a smart phone. Some of these features are already in the market and the other features are in the process of development.

Casio has not been averse to moving towards a smart watch. It had reportedly experimented with touch screen watches way back in the 1980s. So, are the traditional watch making companies ready to take on the Apple, Samsung, Sony and Microsoft smart watch? The launch of new devices from companies like Casio depends on the success and acceptability of the smart watches.
