The season six finale of "Castle" wrapped with Castle's marriage proposal and a shocked Beckett. The season seven finale ended with Beckett, wearing her mother's wedding gown, on the verge of breaking down seeing Castle's car in a ditch and in flames. It is assumed by Beckett that Castle may have not survived the car accident. Andrew Marlow, creator of "Castle," has indicated that Castle is alive.

When asked about whether Nathan Fillion has signed on for Season 7, Marlow said to TV Line, "yeah, Nathan is signed on for Season 7." He ruled out the possibility of putting Castle through some constructive surgery and making him appear with a new face. Marlow said, "No, I don't think we can quite "Doctor Who" Castle."

Marlow and his writing team wanted to kick-start a new mythology and thus did not get Castle and Beckett married. The murder of Beckett's mother was a major story-arc that spanned all six seasons. Beckett finally found a closure in the penultimate episode of "Castle" Season 6 when she arrested Bracken for the murder of her mother. The end of this story-arc has paved the way for the introduction of a new mythology.

"We're actually very excited about where we're going next season, and this [Castle's car in the ditch] helps set up some of the elements that we're going to be dealing with coming back," Marlow said to TV Line, adding that they felt like that it was an "interesting way to end it, in a way that people will want to know what happened, what's going on."

"With the mythology that we're introducing, we want to start it off with a bang," Marlow said.

Marlow has promised the viewers of "Castle" that there will be interesting answers, or interesting questions, when the show returns with new episodes of a new season.

Creator of "Castle" has hinted that fans will get to see a proper wedding of Castle and Beckett. He said, "We know that we owe them [fans] a wedding that accurately reflects who Castle and Beckett are, yes," Marlow said.

"Castle" Season 7 is scheduled to premiere sometime in September.
