The serial killer Jerry Tyson is making an appearance in episode 14 of “Castle” Season 7. With his return, Rick Castle, too, finally comes back to 12th precinct to consult on the case. The sneak peek of the episode, which is titled “Resurrection,” suggests that it is Tyson’s look alike who makes an appearance, and not the real 3XK himself. Dr. Kelly Nieman is also returning in the episode. According to "Castle" showrunner, Tyson is returning because he sees Castle as an unfinished business.

In the sneak peek, Castle and Kate Beckett can be seen interrogating someone who claims to be Michael Boudreau but looks like 3XK. The man is seen telling Castle and Beckett that he got a little work done on his face, as he never liked how he looked and met a “great” surgeon who gave him a new face. He confirms that the surgeon he is talking about is Dr Nieman.

According to the synopsis of the episode 14 of “Castle” Season 7, Castle will be called in to consult on the case when “clues in a murder implicate” Dr. Neiman. The 12th Precinct team’s investigation points at connections to Tyson.

The “Castle” writing team deal with the 3XK mythology once a season, according to David Amann, showrunner of the show. Speaking about the return of this mythology, he said to Entertainment Weekly (EW), “We felt like [now] was a good time to really dig into a story where 3XK is more featured and you can really kind of lean into the mythology, because I think a lot of the times in the previous episodes, the sense of his presence was greater than his actual presence itself.”

Amann also said to EW that Tyson is the guy that they are “pursuing” but never “catching up with.” He said that Castle and Beckett will be confronting their old nemesis and play the “cat-and-mouse game that he likes to play.”

The showrunner revealed that 3XK is returning to take his revenge on Castle, as he sees him as someone who is capable of “bringing about his undoing.” Amann said that for the notorious serial killer, Castle is an unfinished business. Also, he said, “... Castle has bested him in the past that’s hard for him to abide by.

“Resurrection” is the first part of the two-parter. Amann did not confirm whether the two episodes will put an end to 3XK mythology or not. Meanwhile, as previously reported, these two episodes will also revisit Castle’s disappearance mystery. Something will happen that will make Castle remember some of his missing memory.
