The Episode 7, which is titled "Once Upon a Time in the West," of "Castle" Season 7 ended on "The End." If the series had ended with that end, not many would have reasons to complain. The story of Rick Castle and Kate Beckett has reached a pointed where the writers of the show can end the series, saying "And, they lived happy ever after and they continued to solve murder mysteries together."

The murder mystery of Beckett's mom got a closure in the last season. Beckett and Castle exchanged their wedding vows in episode 6 of "Castle" Season 7. The two went on their work-honeymoon in the last episode. If writers had not introduced a new mythology revolving around Castle in Season 7, there was not much substance left to explore in the series. While answering TV Line's question that "Castle" has told a "complete story at the point," Stana Katic, who plays Kate Beckett, said, "if the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top, because I admire the way that they did that with "The Wire" ..."

The actress does not want the story to be milked and she likes the idea of moving on to some other project once a "great story" has been told. She also said it is "art over finance" for her. Stana Katic said that as long as they are creating something "compelling" and that has a direction it is all good but when that is not the case, it is better to pack up and move on to another project. However, Stana Katic said to TV Line that she does not know "where it's going to end."

Both Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion's, who plays the titular role of Castle," contracts are up for renewal at the end of "Castle" Season 7. Katic said that she does not know when the process to renew the contracts begins. The actress also said that she is not the first in the line to worry about that, as a "lot of things that other people have to decide before I really have to decide..."

Answering a question about her considerations for "Castle" Season 8 and the future seasons, Stana Katic did not share what she thinks it depends on. However, the "Castle" actress said, "I don't think that a show should overstay its welcome."
