Catching Fire First Look: Stunning Character Sneak Peeks of Hunger Games Sequel [PHOTOS]
Fans of the Hunger Games franchise will enjoy the new batch of promo photos released of the Catching Fire cast. From a breathtaking Jennifer Lawrence to a beautiful Jena Malone, these pictures will satiate the appetite of those eagerly waiting for the next installation of the popular franchise.
Jennifer Lawrence is the picture-perfect image of the "Girl on Fire" in a spectacular white gown that leaves her looking like a true victor. She brings her character Katniss Everdeen to life, portraying her as a fierce warrior in every sense of the word. While this film adaptation of the young adult novel is a far cry from Lawrence's Oscar-winning performance in Silver Linings Playbook, Hunger Games is one of her films that turned her into a household name.
Rivaling film star Lawrence as the film's other beauty, Jena Malone will play Johanna Mason in the second installment of the franchise. This character is known for being dangerous and cunning, and the pretty Malone gains a noticeable edge in the promo photo released of her Catching Fire counterpart. The actress is obviously thrilled to be cast on the successful Hunger Games as she tweeted the picture with the caption "Ms. Mason".
Fan favorite Stanley Tucci will reprise his role as Caesar Flickerman, the charming host of the deadly Hunger Games. The television personality epitomized the spirit of a Capitol resident in his promo photo dressed impeccably in a suit and showcasing pink hair. Flickerman, a character present in all three novels of the trilogy, is known for dyeing his hair in outrageous colors.
One of the most hilarious characters of the trilogy is Haymitch Abernathy, played to perfection by the talented Woody Harrelson. The veteran actor injects a healthy amount of drunken humor in the Hunger Games series, and fans will surely enjoy his performance in Catching Fire. While the spotlight is often on Katniss and Peeta during the Games, Abernathy is an important character behind the scenes-although his love for alcohol often gets him (and his tributes) in trouble.
Another Capitol resident who is charming nonetheless is Effie Trinket, portrayed by Elizabeth Banks. The beautiful actress is barely recognizable in her ostentatious clothing, hair and make-up as Effie. Banks couldn't wait to share her promo picture with her Twitter followers and she did so recently writing, "Been excited to share this new 'Effie' pic w/ #hungergames fans for a long time."
Cinna, one of Katniss' most significant allies in the film and the novel, is played by the dashing Lenny Kravitz. The famous singer and actor looked comfortable reprising his role for the second time as Katniss' friend and stylist. Although Capitol residents usually look flamboyant and colorful, Cinna is understated in his promo photo in black.
New cast member Jeffrey Wright is a wonderful addition to an already talented slew of actors. The actor will play fellow tribute Beetee whose expertise with electronics will prove to be valuable to Katniss and her allies.
Catching Fire is slated to play in theaters on November 2013. Those who can't wait to see more sneak peeks should stay tuned for other cast members' promotional photos such as Josh Hutcherson's as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth's as Gale Hawthorne and Sam Claflin's as Finnick Odair.
