The holiday lights are about to be turned on as families gather round to celebrate Christmas. And for a lot of couples, it is also the perfect time to bring that diamond ring and make that much awaited wedding proposal.

Just like the ordinary couples out there, here are celebrity couples who have decided to get engaged during the holiday season.

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied. It was during the 2010 holiday season that the actress got engaged with the choreographer of her award-winning film 'Black Swan.' Along with the engagement, they also announced her pregnancy and she gave birth to a baby boy named Aleph in June. The couple still have not exchanged vows, but she still wears the eco-friendly ring.

Sam Cooper and Lily Allen. It was during the sunset of 2010's Christmas Day that Sam proposed to Allen as they were on their vacation in Bali. Cooper got down on one knee right on the balcony of their hotel room with the Indian Ocean being their witness. In June the couple got married and announced that they were to have a baby, who was born in November.

Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes. This couple may have started out controversial in 2009 but they were not afraid to make it public. Cibrian proposed during the weekend of 2010 Christmas and he presented her a costly 5-carat diamond ring. They got married in April in California.

Jim Toth and Reese Witherspoon. This talent agent's wedding proposal over the holiday season got the lovely actress to say yes. They exchanged vows in March at the country estate of Witherspoon in California.
