The Houston Rockets could pull off a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics as they look to add another piece to their championship puzzle before the Feb 20 trade deadline comes to a close, a source close to situation reported on Monday.

Trade speculations continue to heat up heading into the homestretch mark of the trading period. The Rockets, with all the stars they have, are still seeking to acquire another All-Star calibre player capable of orchestrating the team offense.

Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo has just returned from lengthy rehabilitation after undergoing surgery to repair his torn ACL last season. In his first two games in Celtics uniform this season, Rondo averaged 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 21 minutes of action per game.

However, many general managers believed Rondo's tenure with the Celtics won't last any longer as suitors start to fall in line for the service of the reigning assist champion, according to the latest report by New York Daily News writer Mitch Lawrence.

"Rajon Rondo is finally back for the Celtics, and now the question becomes how long will he stay in Boston." Lawrence stated in his latest article.

"Rondo is the last blue chip from the 2008 championship team and 2010 Finals team that Celtics president Danny Ainge can convert into assets as he rebuilds the franchise. More than a few GMs around the league expect Rondo to be on the move, if not at the trading deadline next month, then maybe in June at draft time."

The Rockets and the Phoenix Suns emerged as the frontrunners to get Rondo via trade, while the New York Knicks could pull off a surprise if they can offer an attractive package for the All-Star playmaker.

Running With the Rockets

The Rockets appear to be the most ideal destination for the ultra-competitive Rondo who has been a playoff-tested warrior throughout the Celtics playoff major.

According to the latest rumour, the Rockets could prepare a package consisting of point guard Jeremy Lin, center Omer Asik and a first-round pick for the Celtics in exchange for Rondo before the trade deadline.

The Celtics have previously attempted to bring Asik in town, but they failed to come up with good package for the defensive-oriented center. Lin will also benefit returning in Boston for the first time since his college basketball years in Harvard. Of course, the Celtics will get another first round pick in a very loaded draft this summer.

On the other hand, the Rockets will finally get a point guard who can facilitate the ball effectively well. The Rondo - James Harden combination could become one of the most fearsome backcourt duo in the next few years, making the Rockets a surefire championship contender.
