CES 2014: Intel Will Drop McAfee Name from Products, John McAfee Glad About It [WATCH VIDEOS]

Intel Corp. has officially announced that it will drop the McAfee name from its products and change it to "Intel Security." The said announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. John McAfee, the founder of McAfee, Inc., is reportedly glad about Intel's plans of taking out his name from the company's popular security software.

According to Reuters, Brian Krzanich, Intel's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), announced the software company's decision to remove McAfee and change it to "Security."

68-year-old British-American computer programmer McAfee spoke about Intel's decision in a telephone interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

"I've been begging them to drop the brand or fix the product," said McAfee in the Reuters report.

"I am who I am. I'm sorry I live on the edge and enjoy life and don't care what people think of me."

"I'm sorry that the software has my name," he added.

McAfee also talked to BBC about Intel's announcement at the CES 2014.

"I am now everlastingly grateful to Intel for freeing me from this terrible association with the worst software on the planet. These are not my words, but the words of millions of irate users," said McAfee in the BBC report.

"My elation at Intel's decision is beyond words," McAfee added.

Intel's decision to drop the McAfee brand did not come as much of a surprise to many people, especially because McAfee has been involved in a lot of controversies including his alleged 2012 arrest in Belize, Central America. It was reported that he was arrested by the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) of the Belizean Police Department for possession of an unlicensed weapon and unlicensed drug manufacturing, which was discovered after raiding his property in Orange Walk Town.

However, Belize police spokesman Raphael Martinez confirmed that McAfee was only suspected and was not charged or convicted.

McAfee was also considered by the Belize police as a "person of interest" (POI) in the murder of his neighbor Gregory Viant Faull, an American expatriate who was found dead of a gunshot wound on November 11, 2012. His body was discovered at his home on Ambergris Caye Island.

McAfee has since fled Belize. But, he was arrested for illegally entering Guatemala. He was detained in Guatemala and was supposed to be deported to Belize, but his lawyer was able to appeal against that. McAfee was eventually released from Guatemala and deported to the U.S. Check out his videos from Guatemala below:
