The 150th Emirates Melbourne Cup (2010) will be broadcast on Channel Seven once again.

Australian sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney and his co-presenter Francesca Cumani, Richard Freedman and Simon Marshall will give the audience "all the information needed to have a successful carnival flutter" in the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Their counterparts in the fashion side Johanna Griggs, Sonia Kruger, Fifi Box and Rachael Finch will feature police while interviewing celebrities right beside the entire track from the Birdcafe to the car parks.

"Ever changing technology is another challenge. What was new last year is almost obsolete this year butagain our team have worked tirelessly to follow their objective that if it happens at Flemington, you'll see it at home and viewers I'm sure will be pleasantly surprised at some of the innovations added this year. But in terms of major event sports broadcasting, we do have something of a head start," said Channel Seven Network Head Of Sport Saul Shtein in a press release.

The Melbourne Cup begun in 1861 when the controversial Chief of Police and VRC committeeman Captain Robert Standish came up with the idea to coincide with his quite considerable gambling hobby. Standish was pilloried by the press, some of whom claimed the idea was mad and doomed to fail. But it went ahead and 4000 people went along to Flemington to see Archer beat 16 other runners by 6 lengths. It is now on its 150th year.

Bruce McAvaney expressed his enthusiasm for the 2010 Melbourne Cup, saying: "There always is a sense of occasion. It's a remarkable day with or without a milestone, but I feel this will be one of those extra special occasions. The quality of racing so far in the spring has been exceptional and the Cup field itself could be one of the strongest we've ever seen"
