New dad Channing Tatum isn't prepared for his new role in life. The "White House Down" star, who has welcomed daughter Everly with wife Jenna Dewan on Friday, has revealed that they haven't really prepared for parenthood, but said that they wish to tackle it "freestyle."

At the time Channing, 33, has spoken to Vanity Fair magazine for its July cover issue, his daughter hasn't been born yet, but it's clear that being a dad was already in his mind.

Although he still didn't know how he and his wife will raise their child, one thing's for sure, he wouldn't force anything on his kid, just as what his father did to him. Channing said that while his parents weren't perfect, they set a good example for him. Nevertheless, he wouldn't emulate them.

"One thing I definitely want to change is that whole 'I don't want you to make the same mistakes' mentality. My dad didn't have much money growing up; he didn't have much of an education. He forced that on me, and I didn't want it."

He recalled being forced to take study drugs because he had a hard time learning.

"I truly believe some people need medication. I did not. I did better at school when I was on it, but it made me a zombie. You become obsessive. Dexedrine, Adderall. It's like any other drug. It's like coke, or crystal meth. The more you do, the less it works. For a time, it would work well. Then it worked less and my pain was more.

"I would go through wild bouts of depression, horrible comedowns. I understand why kids kill themselves. I absolutely do. You feel terrible. You feel soul-less. I'd never do it to my child."

Channing also talked about fame and its effects when people got it at an early age.

"I don't remember who said it, but I do believe that whatever age you become famous, you end up staying that age. Because from that point you're not asked to be a normal citizen."

That's why he's worried about Justin Bieber, who became a household name at the age of 14.

"That kid's wildly talented. I hope he doesn't fall down into the usual ways of young kids because it's so hard for someone to be responsible when they're not asked to be," he told the magazine.

Channing and Jenna, who met on the set of their film "Step Up" in 2006 and married in 2009, announced the name of their newborn on his official Web site. Jenna gave birth to Everly in London on May 31.
